Earlier this summer, Guitar World listed 10 female guitarists “you should know.” Following an overwhelming response, Guitar World has returned with part two and 10 more female guitar-slinging phenoms.
Once gain, the list includes a diverse mix of musicians, crossing across all eras, genres and philosophies. For instance:
Gospel/jazz musician Sister Rosetta Tharpe, who died in 1975, gets some mad love for her “sheer brilliance going to town on her Gibson SG and Gretsch hollowbodies.”
Up-and-coming British singer/songwriter/guitarist Ana Calvi also makes the list. The magazine states “we’re digging how she really puts that Tele through its paces, from flamenco-esque to surf-ish, to just plain riveting drama-infused rock.”
Girl Rock Nation artist Malina Moye, with her unique blend of rock ‘n’ roll, blues and soul, receives the ultimate honor as GW notes that it’s no mystery why she’s touted as the female Jimi Hendrix.
